The tip of the Antarctic Peninsula and the first opportunity to step foot on mainland Antarctica, Brown Bluff is recognized by the large volcano which erupted 1 million years ago.
The largest of the islands in a group of its namesake at 74 km long and 22 km wide, Joinville Island lies off the northeast across the Antarctic Sound from the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula.
